The connection between oral health and overall well-being has long been recognized, but it’s only recently gained widespread attention in the medical community. As we age, our oral health can have a significant impact on our systemic health, with conditions like gum disease, tooth loss, and dry mouth being linked to a range of broader health issues.

- Tooth loss
- Dry mouth
These conditions can lead to a range of systemic health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, cognitive decline, and more. It’s essential for seniors to take proactive steps to maintain good oral health and address any underlying issues. “Many people are surprised to learn how closely the health of your mouth reflects the health of your body,” said Dr. David Markiewicz, a general dentist and second-generation provider at Markiewicz Dental. “We want to empower our senior community with simple steps they can take to improve both.”
Dr. Markiewicz, a lifelong Mundelein resident and graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, has a special interest in preventive care and interdisciplinary treatment planning. He will be joined by Dr. Ryan Bogard, a board-certified periodontist who specializes in gum health, dental implants, and oral surgery. Dr. Bogard has received advanced surgical training in both traditional and modern periodontal techniques. “The link between periodontal disease and systemic illness is real and well-documented,” Dr. Bogard said. “We’re excited to answer questions and share the latest research in a setting that’s relaxed and approachable.”
At the seminar, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the latest research and treatment options for maintaining good oral health. They will also have the chance to ask questions and engage in a live Q&A session. All attendees will be entered into a drawing for a free Oral-B iO electric toothbrush, one of the most advanced oral hygiene tools on the market. The event is free and open to all area seniors and their guests. Light refreshments will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a seat.
